A friend of mine said this to me the other day when we were catching up over coffee. This is a friend that I went to college with and a friend in the same industry as me. She’s delightful and I absolutely loved catching up with her.
During our catch up she mentioned that she was proud of me and how well I’m doing. This always takes me by surprise whenever I hear this for few reasons:
- I don’t tell myself this enough or make time to sit back and genuinely enjoy and reflect on where I’m at.
- It’s too easy to be so focused on what you’re doing where you feel like you’re stuck in the mud when you’re really not. Kinda like that saying you can’t see the forest for the trees. We get too caught up in the details we don’t take time to look at the broader picture.
- It feels weird (in a good way) to be seen by someone I think is also doing amazing and awesome. ‘OMG, haiii’.
Some things that have been on my mind lately and I’m going to share them with you. Oh, didn’t you know? This is a virtual coffee chat we’re at right now. I’m currently sipping on my not-so-great iced vanilla latte (why are these things so hit and miss on consistency?). What did you bring to this coffee chat?
#1 – Why aren’t more people talking about how slow this quarter has been compared to this time last year?
You read my side of things already, but also I shit you not – most of the business owner friends I’ve talked with are feeling a slow quarter. Here’s another common thread, though: it always works out. It’s part of the roller coaster ride and you just gotta be strapped in and hang tight.
#2 – Why are we pretending that it’s acceptable to be on social media all the time? Or that social media is the only way to market?
This one is tricky. It’s important to market your business and social media seems to be the easiest, but it’s also draining, addictive and easy to lose that healthy boundary. But we also have that FOMO if we don’t show up. At least I do. These next few weeks are going to be hard to step away from socials while I’m in Oregon but I think it’s very much needed.
#3 – How come no one is talking about Britney Spears?
Conspiracy theory alert. Why is it that no one cared to notice that Britney Spears wasn’t in any promotional tour things with Elton John with the new release of Tiny Dancer. They repurposed old photos of her, she didn’t do any interviews and no one seems to have really seen her since this whole handler situation. It’s fuckin’ weird. And her images/videos absolutely are on par with human trafficking shit. Don’t even get me started on how weird that wedding was of hers. It’s all. so. weird.
Other things on my mind: how many days can I get boxing in while in Oregon, how is this flight going to go with two toddlers, did I pack all the right clothes, I’m going to miss my dog, will Tom water all my plants and is he going to sleep better than I am with me gone, I can’t wait for the new season of Black Mirror, why is Scream so bad but I keep watching the movies, I can’t wait to breathe mountain air.
This is just a quick preview of the many things rolling around in my mind these days:). I’d love to hear your thoughts and what’s rattlin’ around in your brain as of late.
